This course aims to introduce participants to the ancient technique of woodcut printing, which has seen the rise of important Sardinian masters recognized internationally (Remo Branca, Stanis Dessy, Mario Delitala). After a brief introduction and some historical-artistic context, with direct access to original plates and prints, participants will create a sketch and prepare the wooden block (sanding, smoothing, and surface preparation). The sketch will then be transferred onto the block and carved using gouges, knives, and burins. Finally, the carved block will be inked using rollers or pads and printed on fine paper either by hand with a spoon, with a manual Stanhope press, or with a Saroglia mechanical press.
